Special Giving Programs
Guardians of the Lake
The Committee has set up a special monthly giving program called Guardians
of the Lake. By committing to making regular monthly donations of at least $10,
participants in the Guardians program help the Committee plan for the future. In return,
Guardians receive substantially fewer other mailings, and receive special monthly Mono
Lake updates from Committee co-founder Sally Gaines by mail or email. New enrollees in the Guardians
program also receive a special Guardians of the Lake lapel pin! top
Mono Lake Defense Trust
The Leadership Circle of the Mono Lake Committee
Donors who choose to give $250 per year or more become part of a special cadre of
Committee members: the Mono Lake Defense Trust. The Defense Trust was established to
assure that, wherever the fight for Mono Lake might lead, financial resources would always
be available. Members who give at the Defense Trust level receive special benefits,
including the annual Mono Lake Calendar and special updates from the Executive Director.
Defense... to remind us of the days when urgent legal defense actions
were the centerpiece of our advocacy for Mono Lake, and that we must always be ready to go
back to court if necessary. We will always strive to fill the shoes of activists like the
late David Gaines who instigated the groundswell of public concern that ultimately saved
Mono Lake.
Trust... to remind us that, so long as the values of the public trust
doctrine are alive and well, Mono Lake will be protected. The public trust doctrine is the
California law the Committee used to support its position that the rights of California
citizens to enjoy Mono Lake must be balanced with the water rights of the Los Angeles
Department of Water and Power. top
