N. Saw-whet Owl calling in Lundy Canyon last night (2/22/03). We timed the call and came up with counts ranging from 120-130 hoots per minute at an even, constant rhythm of hoot-hoot-hoot-hoot-hoot-hoot-etc, with no variation in note tone. The rapid whistle/hooting went on uninterrupted for several hours from approximately 9pm when it was first noticed until at least midnight when our attention and consciousness waned.
