Saw the first red admiral (dark wings with an orange stripe across the edge of the hind wing) of the season last friday fly by the back of the El Mono Motel toward the mountains. This is earliest I have seen these folks around. This species feeds on nettle, but may be migrating through. Also snakeflies (agulla sp.) are about. Look for what looks like a mayfly with a stretched neck. Plus, blue bottle flies.
