went down for the aborted 'COD' on 7/21 (DWP dock) and we ended up walking toward LV Delta. Most amazing display of phalaropes I've ever encountered in ten years here: one flock took flight in the wind and setting sun possibly 20-30 thousand? Heck if I could count em' the instinct to estimate seems ridiculous in relation to their scale. This was the most I've seen in one group. The extent of the flock was appr. 1/2 mile in length, and their movement barely cohesive as a single flock due to its tremendous size. Seemed as if they were poised to depart and then collapsed back to the water in a ricochet avalanche of white and then black.
