Walked from Navy Beach to Sammon Springs on Saturday and found the usual cast of characters including Marbled Godwits, Long-billed Curlews. 3 juv. Short-billed Dowitchers, a first winter Ring-billed Gull and a Bonaparte’s too, just one. California Gulls were seen in unusually high densities on the southeast shore, washing and preening, most likely preparing for their flight west over yonder mountains. The most interesting part of the day (other than the lake's spectacular placid beauty) was a raft of 39 American Coots, hanging out like a pack of marauding bandits. Also, Paul, Yvette, Pete and I got a close look at a Western Grebe near Lee Vining Tufa, Sunday afternoon.
