There are birds here in winter, really. And, there is more than just 9 Coots at DeChambeau Ponds. One N.Shoveler and one GW Teal were serving as escort in the north pond with a persistent N.Harrier making all a bit nervous. The usual stuff all around for this corner of the Basin (few Song Sparrows, Bewick's Wren, couple of forlorn N.Flickers), but what was a little unusual was the Short-eared Owl mobbing a juvenile Golden Eagle north of 'Like-a-Man' tufa. Several hundred Eared Grebes stretching, dotting well beyond the tufa shoals.
