On the way to the office yesterday I stopped in the middle of the road, like any good crazed birder, or Lee Vining local, at the sight of a strange goldfinch crossing the road by Arya's house. The Lawrence's Goldfinch,it appears to be a beautiful young male, with an indistinct black mask, gray head and back... he just looked a little dingy so I am guessing at the age. In any case, I've never seen one here or anywhere for that matter and it appears to be a first spring record for Mono Co.
