Hey guys. I am a biologist with the Point Reyes Bird Observatory, and I research a population of Willow Flycatchers at Mono Lake. The little brown wonders should be heading through your neck of the desert anytime now, and I am always looking for sightings that will assist us in solving their secrets. I band them with two colors on one leg, and a silver FWS band on the other. Older birds have the silver band on the right leg, the 2003 cohort wears the silver band on the left. Their legs are small and the bands are smaller, and so resighting Willow Flycatcher color combinations takes effort. Goodness, just identifying an Empid takes effort. But a positive ID to demonstrate dispersal or migration would surely be aces. The colors I use are: red, mauve, blue, black, orange, yellow, green, and white. When you see a color combination, you read it from the bird's left leg to its right, and from its body down to its toes. Thank you so much for your help! cmccreedy@prbo.org
