On Saturday, May 22, 2004 sited Bald Eagle sitting on an old fence post. This post is at the north end, right side of bridge where US Hwy. 395 crosses of the Walker River. I pulled over into a wide area 200 to 300 yards north of the bridge and got out the ol' binoculars. Had 2 field guide books (National Audubon Society F. G. to Birds, Western Ed., c1994 and Kaufman's Birds of N. A., c2000) that I reference to help with identification. I live just outside of Sonora so am very familiar with Turkey Vultures. Last year observed the nesting Osprey's near New Melones Visitor's Center. Looking up those birds and comparing with what I was seeing I believe it was an mature adult Bald Eagle because of its size, white head, yellow beak. The maps in both books do not accurately reflect Tuolumne, Calaveras and Mono Counties have Ospreys or Bald Eagles. My research on the internet confirm these birds are indeed active in these areas.
