While conducting a point count this morning on lower Wilson Creek, I came across a curious song in the sagebrush. I could see from the point that it was a sparrow but did not recognize its song one bit, so I chased it down and got really great looks at it. It had a gray nape, broad white supercillium, distinctive auricular and dark mustache. The breast was clear with no streaking and the bird had a small bill. I listened to it sing for about 20 minutes. The bird was 1/4 mile south of Cemetery Rd where it crosses Wilson Creek, on the west side of the creek... also a Ash-throated Flycatcher and a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron.
