A hatch-year owl, sleeping in one of the most beautiful places on Rush Creek, in a cave of willows. It let me creep up to within 6 or 7 feet. It would open its eyes when I moved, and I would stop moving, and it would slowly fall back asleep again. I finally left it sleeping after 6 or 7 minutes. I never hear these at night on Rush, I don't believe they nest here. Shuford's breeding bird atlas of the Glass Mountains hints that they may nest in the Pines on 120.
