So there's been a juvenile red-shouldered hanging out around County Park lately. Today, while birding at the end of the boardwalk, the red-shouldered was sitting on the tufa (as it often does). Then it swooped down and came back up with a... snake! I couldn't tell what kind it was but it was definitely long and was wrapping itself around the hawk's legs and feet as the hawk was trying to take its head off. The red-shouldered eventually beheaded it and ate the rest, as it was still twitching with whatever sort of nervous impulses the hawk was triggering by ripping it apart. The head is still sitting there on the tufa. Pretty cool.
