Comments

For the past two weeks since the October snows, White-tailed Jackrabbits have been seemingly ubiquitous in the northwest corner of the Mono Basin below snow line. They are most noticeable on the commute home in the early evening, with many near misses. One frenetic individual, after running straight ahead with, instead of away from our vehicle, pulled into the right lane and stopped. As we passed it launched several feet vertically into the air, limbs flailing, before landing and bolting beyond the shoulder. A number of WTJRs have not been so lucky--roughly a dozen carcasses have been observed on Hwy 395 since early November between Lee Vining and Hwy 167 (via Hawthorne).
