Yesterday (6/30)while driving on the road that leads to the Black Point fissures, a bird flew across the road that turned out to be an Ash-throated Flycatcher. Later that night I camped under the Jeffrey Pines behind the craters and woke up this morning to discover that my tent was only 20 meters from a Williamson's Sapsucker nest that was being visited by both parents. The sapsuckers didn't like that too much so they enlisted a cloud of no-see-ums and a particularly ferocious Pygmy Nuthatch to chase me out of the woods. A nice way to start the day.
