Spotted at dusk by Simone Whitecloud and seen by all in the car along the Saddlebag Lake Rd, just south of the Sawmill walk-in cmpgrd at about 9500' in Lodgepole Forest. It ran parallel with the vehicle along the road, periodically stopping to present good views of itself. It finally reversed direction and faded from view after a couple hundred yards of travel. These mammals have an uncertain status and are declining or are now absent in many areas of California. According to John Harris the central Sierra may be the last place in California that they are common.
