The nest site was in Lee Vining Canyon on a north-facing talus and scrub slope roughly between 8600-8800'. The adult flushed from beneath a dwarf sagebrush making a clicking/cooing noise before doing so. The chick was lying there on a bare, partially shaded scrape. The chick did not open its eyes and remained perfectly still. I wondered if it was even alive.
