The (mostly) albino eared grebe reported at Mono Lake on Oct. 9 was still there over the weekend. I found it Friday afternoon, Oct. 13 and watched it from 5:15 to 5:45. Initially, it was a few hundred yards west of the observation platform at Mono Lake County Park. It swam to the area of the tufa towers near the platform, continued a couple of hundred yards east, then returned to the area of the tufa towers. Another birder reported seeing it there at 10 a.m. on Friday , Oct. 13. I went out there again on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 8 a.m. and refound the bird in the shadow of the largest of the tufa towers, where it remained for an hour.
