George Appel and I took a spotting scope up to Bridgeport Tufa on Tuesday afternoon (11/14) and saw 15 species of waterfowl, including 15 Tundra Swan, 6 Snow Geese, and 300+ Canada Geese. There were also at least 5 Canvasback drakes – too far to tell if there were females too – among at least 100 Redhead. The best bird, at least for this time of year, was a single brilliantly plumaged Cinnamon Teal drake. Gaines’ book has the late date for them on the eastside as Oct 15. There was also a single immature Bonaparte’s Gull that for a few moments we thought could have been a young Little Gull. Alas, it was a BOGU.
