Latest bear news:
The bear that was in Lee Vining was hit by a car.
The bear at Samman Springs was spotted again on August 26th by Ranger Jim Pence.
Bear cubs were spotted at Mono Lake County Park.
Two bears have been around the Claremont Field Station daily (in the hills above Lee Vining). One came through an open window and ate food from the kitchen while no one was home.
TPR has had the worst bear problems in at least 5 years--one broke into a yurt and another got into their freezer. Tuolumne Meadows also reports worse bear problems than usual. Remember, the only way to have problem bears is to have problem people. Store your food and trash properly and close doors and windows when you are not home.
