Last Friday a bear was seen at the Post Office and later up an apple tree at the south end of town. Today, the same small bear was back, just east of the Post Office, eating trash.
The excited kids at the elementary school were brought inside and the Sheriff's Deputies scared the bear out of town. It is normally rare to see a bear in Lee Vining, however this year bears have been seen repeatedly.
UPDATE: Sept. 27th a bear got into the Hess Park trash cans and over-filled dumpster and the Scenic Area Visitor Center's trash. Sept. 28th a bear got into a local beekeeper's hives.
