Restoration Work Day
Starting in 2002 we have discontinued the traditional "Restoration
Days" as we have known it the last few years. Most of the activities
and festivities will now occur at the Mono Basin Bird Chautauqua in
June. We will still do a restoration work day on Labor Day Weekend for
those who are interested in helping with restoration.
This year, on Sunday September 1st, we have planned a tamarisk
removal from 9am - 1pm. This involves looking for tamarisk, an invasive
non-native plant, and carefully pulling out as much of it (including
roots) as possible. We will show you how to identify it. You should
bring water, gloves, hat, sunscreen, and be prepared for digging,
pulling, and walking around in the hot sun next to the creek. Please
email info@monolake.org to tell
us that you want to participate so we know how many people to expect.
Following that will be lunch from 1-2 (pizza provided for those
helping with work). From 2-4 Dave Carle will be signing his new book,
"Burning Questions" about fire in the west. At 3pm Craig Roecker will be presenting the 2002 State of the Lake slide show.
