New Trail to Mono Lake

This excavator is parked at Old Marina in preparation for work that is beginning on a 1.3-mile-long
trail from the Scenic Area Visitor Center down to the lakeshore. The trail will pass an ice-age tufa formation known
locally as Ice House Tufa, cross old lakeshores, link with the David Gaines Memorial Boardwalk, and end up at Old
Marina. California State Parks and the US Forest Service are the primary agencies developing the trail, with the
Mono Lake Committee as a partner in the process. Construction began in late June and the trail should be
open for public use in 2009!
