Major channel changes on Rush Creek

June 30, 2005 - Rush Creek flowing at its peak flow of approximately
473 cfs (cubic feet per second).

August 31, 2006 - The same location in the Rush Creek bottomlands, over a year later.
In the photo it is flowing at 90 cfs. The 2006 peak, which moved sediment and large woody
debris into the far channel and cut it off, occurred on June 8th at 589 cfs. In 2006, the
greatest peak flow volume was delivered to Rush Creek since the early 1980s. Large peaks,
called SRFs (Stream Restoration Flows), are the preferred way of delivering the energy needed
to restore the streams below the diversion dams. Channels naturally migrate and shift course,
especially in wet years.
