1/25/07 If "all we are is dust in the wind" why worry about clean air standards to protect our health? On September 21st, 2006 the EPA announced they would maintain the standard for windblown dust – a victory for Mono Lake after the original proposal would have eliminated the coarse particulate standard for rural and windblown dust in the Mono Basin. That victory is now facing new challenges as the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is filing suit against the EPA to overturn the dust standard, or as the Cattlemen say ‘Dust in the Wind.’ By likening rural and windblown dust to Kansas’s hit song “Dust in the Wind” do the Cattlemen think maintaining clean air is futile? The Mono Lake Committee is watching this lawsuit and is
prepared to weigh in as opportunities arise. Contact Geoff McQuilkin (
