Field Seminars: Click here to see a list of this summer's seminars, ranging from butterflies to basketry and water to wildflowers. Usually a Saturday-Sunday with prices ranging from $80-275.

Bird Walk: Meet some of the feathered denizens of the Eastern Sierra on this easy stroll through wetlands, willows, and cottonwood trees. Meet at the Mono Lake County Park (5 miles north of Lee Vining, just east of Hwy. 395). 1.5-2 hours. Top of this Page

Dig Into Dana Walk
Geology and history bloom like corn lilies in the mind on this Yosemite Park Ranger guided walk. Meet at Tioga Pass Entrance Station. 1.5 hours.

Panum Crater Walk: Explore one of the most recent volcanoes to rock the Eastern Sierra. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Meet at Panum Crater parking lot (4 miles east of Highway 395 on Highway 120). 1 hour. Last walk August 3rd. Top of this Page

South Tufa Walk: Discover the mystery of Mono Lake's strange water and wildlife. Bring binoculars, water and sunscreen. Meet at the South Tufa parking lot (5 miles east of Highway 395 on Highway 120). 1.5 hours. South Tufa is a fee area; there is a $3 per adult entrance fee. Top of this Page

Junior Ranger Walk: Meet at the Mono Lake County Park (5 miles north of Lee Vining off Cemetery Rd). Bring a snack. 1.5 hours. Top of this Page

Stars Over Mono: Enjoy an evening of stargazing and stories with the precious dark skies of the Mono Basin. Meet at the South Tufa parking lot (5 miles east of Highway 395 on Highway 120). Bring a blanket or chair and warm clothes. More than 50% cloud cover will cancel the talk. 1.5 hours.  Top of this Page

Visitor Center Patio Talks: Come join a naturalist for a twenty minute talk on various subjects covering the unique ecology, geology, and human history of the Mono Basin or Yosemite National Park.  Top of this Page

Lee Vining Creek Walk: Can a riparian ecosystem rebound from decades without water? Join a naturalist for a look at the ecology & human history of Lee Vining Creek. Learn how Mono Lake and the streams that feed it are being restored. Meet in front of the Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore with water, hat, sunscreen, and binoculars for a 1.5-2-hour walk along the moderate Lee Vining Creek Trail. Sharing Nature with Children: Games and Activities for families with children ages 5-12. Meet at Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center. 1 hour. Last offered in 2002. Top of this Page

Tioga Pass / Lundy Area:

Bennettville: Join a Yosemite Park Ranger for a walk to historic Bennettville, a 19th-century mining camp. Bring sturdy shoes, water and sunscreen. Meet at Junction Campground (junction of Highway 120 and Saddlebag Road). 1.5-2 hour walk. Top of this Page

Lundy Canyon Walk: Explore the flora and fauna, geology, and mining history of Lundy Canyon. Meet at historical marker at Lundy Store (west on Lundy Canyon Road from Hwy. 395, 7 miles north of Lee Vining). 1.5 hours. Top of this Page

Why Care For a Bear?: Join a Yosemite Park Ranger to learn about the behavior & biology of the American Black Bear. Meet at Junction Campground. 1.5 hours. Top of this Page

June Lake Area: (none offered in 2002-)

June Mountain Nature Hike: Discover the flora and fauna of the Sierra Nevada. Meet at the June Mountain Ski Area parking lot, west corner. 1.5 hours. Last offered in 1999. Top of this Page

Campground Program: Storytelling, songs, stargazing, or a slide show. Meet at the Oh! Ridge Amphitheater on Friday and the Silver Lake Campground on Saturday. 1 hour. Last offered in 2001. Top of this Page

  • Mono Lake Committee at (760) 647-6595. Open daily 8am-9pm. 9am-7pm daily beginning August 31. 9am-5pm daily beginning October 19.

Tours are made possible through a partnership between the US Forest Service, the Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve, and the Mono Lake Committee.
