Memorial service for Andrea Lawrence
A memorial service was held on April 19, 2009—over 500 people gathered at Mammoth Mountain to pay tribute to Andrea Mead Lawrence on what would have been her 77th birthday.

The event featured a roster of speakers, a video about her achievements from Olympic historian Bud Greenspan, a display of photographs from her many accomplishments, and a chance for friends to share stories and memories.

I had the honor of joining a wonderful group of people who spoke personally and passionately of Andrea’s accomplishments and character.
The speakers from the evening:
— welcome: Rusty Gregory
— Ameen Kahn for Senator Barbara Boxer
— Byng Hunt for Senator Diane Feinstein
— Bill Reid for Representative Buck McKeon & Mono County
— Fran Spivy-Weber & Art Baggett for the State of California
— Tom Kelly for United States Ski Team
— Peggy White, childhood friend, through a video
— Linda Meyers-Tikalsky
— Tony Rossman
— Martha Davis
— Tim Alpers
— Sally Miller & Deanna Dulen
— Derrick Vocelka
— Bud Greenspan tribute film to Andrea
— Nina Winter Graham (also reading a letter from Genny Smith)
— Geoff McQuilkin

— family and friends
We scanned the program from the memorial for those of you who might wish to see it. The program can be viewed here.

Several folks kindly requested that I post the text of my speech online, and you can read the PDF file here. |
