The bucket walk event, which
originated in 1979, had people scoop
water from the diversion pond on Lee
Vining Creek, and carry it down to where
it belonged: Mono Lake. The tradition
began when the creeks were dry from
diversions. It was discontinued when the
creeks flowed again.
