The Mono Lake Committee will host a book signing of Dave Carle’s new book Drowning the Dream: California’s Water Choices at the Millennium. With extensive use of oral histories, contemporary newspaper articles, and autobiographies, Carle provides a rich exploration of the historic changes in California showing that imported water has shaped the population growth in the State. The key has been water from the Eastern Sierra, the Colorado River, and finally, Northern California rivers. Using first-person voices of Californians to reveal the resulting changes, Carle concludes that the new millennium may be the time to stop drowning the California dream. Dave will be available to sign copies purchased that evening. Light refreshments will be served. Friday evening, March 24, 2000, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mono Lake Committee, Highway 395 at Third Street, Lee Vining (760) 647-6124.
