For Immediate Release

Haven’t been canoeing on Mono Lake yet? Now is your chance to do it for free! On Saturday June 23 and Sunday June 24, the Mono Lake Committee will be offering free canoe tours on Mono Lake to Eastern Sierra locals. Tour times are 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m.   Those wishing to attend are encouraged to call the Mono Lake Committee Information Center and Bookstore at (760) 647-6595 and reserve a spot as soon as possible.

Approximately one hour, canoe tours allow guests to glide through magnificent tufa towers at South Tufa observing birds and aquatic life alongside a trained naturalist.

Regular tours depart every Saturday and Sunday from late June through mid-September. Tours normally cost $17.00 per adult and $6.00 for kids 4-12 years old. Advance reservations are required and may be made by telephone. Special tours may be made for 12 or more people on weekdays with advance notice.

Canoe Tours are one of the many ways the Mono Lake Committee has educated the public about the importance of Mono Lake and gained support for its protection. The Mono Lake Committee is a non-profit citizen's group dedicated to protecting and restoring the Mono Basin Ecosystem; educating the public about Mono Lake and the impacts on the environment of excessive water use; and promoting cooperative solutions that protect Mono Lake and meet real water needs without transferring environmental problems to other areas.
