For Immediate Release

We would like to thank Southern California Edison (SCE) for their $5,000 contribution to Mono Lake Committee’s Outdoor Experiences Program. The Outdoor Experiences Program is an outdoor education program focusing on watershed conservation through muscle-powered recreation. Entering its 6th year, the Outdoor Experiences Program owes its success to the unique resource partnership between Southern California Edison, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Mono Lake Committee, and Los Angeles community-based organizations.

The young people that participate in the Outdoor Experiences Program are associated with water conservation programs in Los Angeles, reside in inner city locations, and never have the opportunity to travel beyond the Los Angeles area. Groups visit in the summer for 3-5 days to explore the Mono Basin and surrounding Sierra Nevada, and sometimes participate in local environmental restoration projects.

SCE’s valuable contribution will help new young people make the connection between their life in Los Angeles and the source of their water in the Eastern Sierra. The contribution will also help continue the gift of allowing Los Angeles youth to experience a world beyond the inner city.
