From September 5-9th nine Mono Lake Committee staff attended sessions of this great conference focused on regional research in the area. Put on by the folks at the White Mountain Research Station, the conference did a nice job of gathering many of the researchers studying different aspects of climate change in the Eastern Sierra.

If you’re interested in some of the fascinating research see more on the speaker lineup. And a general article from the Inyo Register.

Some of the highlights included talks on tufa by Scott Stine,  pikas and rock glaciers by Connie Millar, the effects of climate on in-stream ecology by Dave Herbst, Mono Lake limnology by Bob Jellison.  The Mono Lake team also hosted a great panel with Frances Spivy Weber, California State Water Board Member, Dave Martin of DWP, Peter Vorster consulting hydrologist, Greg Reis Mono Lake Committee Information Specialist, Justin Hite California Gull Researcher, and Stella Moss of PRBO Conservation Science. It was an all-star lineup!

Also of note, David Nahai, General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was the keynote speaker in a session for the public. Nahai’s talk was also covered in the Inyo Register.
