Did you miss Mono Lake?
January 6th, 2009 by Mono Lake Committee StaffWell, the lake didn’t go anywhere of course . . . but the Mono Lake Website did. A server glitch that became a meltdown put us out of service for the past several days. We’ve been working frantically to get everything going again and we’re close. You’ll probably see odd behavior for the next couple of days as our team (with particular thanks to super volunteer Russell!) wrangles with Linux code to put things in order, but we got the webserver back up on Monday night, most content rolling today, and the Webcams operational around noon. Phew!
What happened? Some files were damaged during routine maintenance, but routine restore functions we unsuccessful. Increasingly dramatic restoration measures were also unsuccessful, resulting finally in a fresh new operating system install for the webserver. So now, in addition to the redesign and newly upgraded website content, we’re sporting the latest and greatest versions of the behind the scenes software that makes everything on the site run.
Thanks for your patience as we fix everything up. Chances are any problems you encounter are being addressed, but if you think we’re missing something please let us know.
