In addition to the parkland itself, I'm very thrilled for the local economies up and down the Eastern Sierra that this closure would have impacted...and for the state's collection of tax revenue. I remember well from my days in the 1980s teaching the Camera Walks with the State Reserve how many wonderful accents could be heard along South Tufa trails - visitors from near and far couldn't simply take a half-hour drive to take in the sights, as if the lake were a park in the middle of the LA or SF Bay Area population. As the signs along any freeway note, there's "gas, food, and lodging" that the travelers may require for a more enjoyable experience. To pave the way for a more involved taking in of the visual, historical, scientific, and other values to be gained. Visitors will be happy...locals will be happy! (even the state will be happy with its continued tax monies!)(posted to my FB page…)
