Holiday shopping feature: Children’s books

This post was written by Angie Glaser, 2012 Project Specialist.

Give the little readers in your life the gift of imagination this holiday season. The Mono Lake Committee’s online store now features two new children’s books for young readers. All the water in the world by George Ella Lyon and Katherine Tillotson is a beautifully illustrated, artfully written picture book full of environmental consciousness. The words swirl, flow, and splatter just like the water they describe as pictures of the water cycle flow over every page. Fun and informative, this book is not only a wonderful way to teach youngsters about “so precious” water but is sure to be loved by adults as well.

For older readers looking for a story with adventure leaping off every page, Chomp by Carl Hiaasen is the perfect gift. Set in the Florida everglades, Chomp tells the tale of Wahoo Cray, son of a professional animal wrangler. Life gets interesting for Wahoo when his father stars on a reality TV show and the show’s inept host goes missing in the swamp amidst bats, alligators, snakes, and mosquitoes. Funny and a bit wacky, Chomp is great for readers age ten and up with a sense of adventure.
