Mono Lake recommended by Lonely Planet

Friday, December 7th, 2012 by Elin, Communications Coordinator

California’s Eastern Sierra made Lonely Planet’s list of the “Top 10 US Destinations for 2013″ this week! We here at the Mono Lake Committee agree wholeheartedly.

Lonely Planet recommends including Mono Lake, Bodie State Historic Park, and Devils Postpile National Monument in your Eastern Sierra itinerary. If you are already dreaming about next summer’s vacation, read up on all the things to do at Mono Lake. You can also give us a call for our recommendations: (760) 647-6595.

Holiday shopping feature: Books about the future of water

Saturday, December 1st, 2012 by Angie, Project Specialist

Water is a subject near and dear to us here at the Mono Lake Committee. It is the source of all life on our planet and the cause of both success and struggle for human beings. Newly added to the Committee’s online store are two books that take a look at water and what a changing climate means for this precious resource. (more…)

Holiday shopping feature: Handmade mugs by Michael Cooke

Friday, November 30th, 2012 by Angie, Project Specialist

Since May I have purchased four ceramic mugs handmade by Michael Cooke. Every coffee, tea, or hot chocolate drinker in my life has either been told of the beauty of these mugs or has received one as a gift. These mugs are not only unique works of art but are also extremely functional and structurally sound pieces of pottery. If you are looking for a practical, beautiful gift (more…)

Holiday shopping feature: Pika presents

Monday, November 26th, 2012 by Angie, Project Specialist

Pikas are hands-down the most adorable high Sierra residents. They live in talus slopes high in the mountains, and sightings of these squeaky, furry mammals are a treat for hikers willing to explore remote alpine areas. You can now enjoy these cute “rock rabbits” in more comfortable environments, thanks to three different pika items featured in the Mono Lake Committee’s online store. (more…)

Shop for Mono Lake!

Sunday, November 18th, 2012 by Elin, Communications Coordinator

Did you know there are two ways to benefit Mono Lake when you shop online? You can visit the Committee’s online bookstore to find your favorite exclusive Mono Lake merchandise. You can also use the link here to contribute 5% of your Amazon purchases toward Mono Lake’s protection. Pretty cool, right?

Stop by the Committee’s online bookstore to find things like steel Mono Lake pint cups, the 2013 Mono Lake Calendar, and reusable gift wrap handmade by a Committee staffer who lives right by the shores of Mono Lake. You can’t get any of those things on Amazon.

However, we recognize that you can’t get things like digital SLR cameras, organic mac ‘n’ cheese, or car floor mats at the Committee store. But you can still benefit Mono Lake when you shop for those things on Amazon—just use the “shop for Mono Lake” link here every time.

Happy shopping, and long live Mono Lake!

Supporting Mono Lake with online shopping

Saturday, November 17th, 2012 by Arya, Communications Director

Of all people who struggle to choose between large online retailers and small independent bookstores, I think it’s fair to say that the Mono Lake Committee staff qualifies.

The Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore is an independent bookstore that has to compete with the ebooks, infinite selections, and impossible-to-compete-against prices of online retailers like Amazon. All of our staff members work shifts in the (more…)

The Mono Lake Committee has the perfect gifts for those on your list who include “books” and “birds” among their favorite things.
