Adopt-a-Highway volunteers keep Mono Lake Committee’s section pristine

As August came to a close, Mono Lake Committee volunteers helped clean up the Committee’s section of Highway 395. We set out from the Committee and drove to our section of the highway, which begins just past the north end of the June Lake Loop and continues down to West Portal Road. We managed to avoid the thunderstorms that had been showering the area periodically and were only subjected to a bit of our usual Mono Basin wind. Along the road, we picked up all the litter we could find, grabbed recycling, and placed larger objects by the side of the road to be picked up by CalTrans.

The Committee strives to plan biannual clean-up days so we keep our portion of the road looking beautiful and litter-free. These clean-up days wouldn’t be possible without the help of our wonderful volunteers who were willing to spend a few hours in the summer sun scouring the sagebrush for pieces of trash. If you’re interested in becoming a Mono Lake Committee volunteer and joining us for our next Adopt-a-Highway clean-up day, please contact Office Director Rosanne Catron at (760) 647-6595.
