Will you volunteer for Mono Lake this year?

Each year, volunteers contribute hundreds of hours in the Mono Basin with the Mono Lake Volunteer Program. Whether conducting outreach to the public at South Tufa, pointing out birds with a scope at the State Reserve boardwalk, picking up trash, pulling invasive plants, or helping out at the Scenic Area Visitor Center, our volunteers are extremely beneficial to Mono Lake. The Mono Lake Volunteer Program has a variety of opportunities to fit the interests of different volunteers.

Last year, volunteers removed more than 1,000 pounds of invasive plants from the banks of the Mono Basin’s streams. Photo by Erik Lyon.

This year, volunteer training will occur in the Mono Basin on May 28 and 29, and June 4, 5, 11, and 12  from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Volunteers are required to attend these six half-day training sessions and are asked to donate roughly eight hours per month from June through September. Participants must be at least 18 years old, be able to walk short distances, and stand for two hours.

If you are interested in the Mono Lake Volunteer Program, please contact Office Director Rose Catron at (760) 647-6595.

The Mono Lake Volunteer Program is jointly sponsored by the US Forest Service, California State Parks (the Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve), and the Mono Lake Committee, with support from the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association.
