Current Eastern Sierra road conditions

This post was written by Emma Oschrin, 2014 Project Specialist.

As Arya mentioned in her recent Mono-logue post, it’s now the time of year when everyone waits with bated breath and hopeful road trip plans to hear about road openings. Here is the most current information we have:

  • Tioga Pass (Hwy 120 west): Currently closed. Yosemite National Park will begin snow removal on April 16. However, a projected opening date has not been set.
  • Bodie Road (SR 270): Currently scheduled to open April 15 (weather-dependent)
  • Sonora Pass (Hwy 108): Projected opening date is April 20 (weather-dependent)
  • Monitor Pass (Hwy 89): Currently open
  • Mammoth Lakes Basin: Projected opening date is April 23 (weather-dependent)
  • Red’s Meadow: Projected opening date is May 17
  • June Lake Loop (Hwy 158): Currently open
  • Lundy Lake Road, Virginia Lakes Road, and Rock Creek Road: Projected to be open before fishing opener on April 26 (weather-dependent).
  • Highway 120 east: Currently open

It’s always a good idea to check road conditions and closures before you travel, you can check the roads you’re traveling on the CalTrans website here.

Be sure to keep checking in here on the Mono-logue for current updates. We’ll post here as soon as we hear about any changes or openings.
