Digging into the past with geomorphologist Scott Stine

Sunday, August 21st, 2011 by Abby, Mono Lake Intern

If you own a shovel and you like to dig, then you should consider becoming a geomorphologist. Geomorphologist Scott Stine has been digging holes in the Mono Basin since 1979. California Gulls: Learning more from biologist Kristie Nelson

Saturday, August 6th, 2011 by Abby, Mono Lake Intern

Letters sent to save Mono Lake’s state park

Thursday, June 30th, 2011 by Abby, Mono Lake Intern

Morgan Lindsay and Abby Rivin with the nearly 1,000 letters protesting closure of the state park at Mono Lake. Photo by Elin Ljung.

930 letters and 280 petition signatures were sent to Governor Jerry Brown, Director of California State Parks Ruth Coleman, Senator Ted Gaines, and Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen to protest the pending closure of Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve.  Since its creation in 1982, the Reserve has provided the management and educational programs needed to protect the lake. These programs function with the support of  many hard-working volunteers and private funding, which would be lost if the park closed. Closure of the Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve will produce no saving for the state and will place the ecological resources of Mono Lake in jeopardy. Please add your voice to the thousands who want to see Mono Lake stay open!
