"Lee Vining Canyon" by Nicola Voorhees.
“See It Again for the First Time,” a watercolor gallery show by Nicola Voorhees, is on display at the Mono Lake Theater & Gallery now through January 31, 2014.
Those who have had the pleasure of viewing Nicola’s brightly colored landscape watercolor paintings will understand the name behind the show. Pinks, blues, and bright greens really do allow one to see Mono Lake and the Mono Basin again as if for the first time.
Meet Nicola and view her paintings at the gallery opening hosted by the Mono Lake Committee this Saturday, August 31 from 4:30–5:30pm.
All are invited to the gallery opening, so come and enjoy the artist and her work. Light refreshments will be served.

The presentation includes photos from their travels around the world as they explored environmental issues shared by many countries at the same latitude as Mono Lake.
David and Janet shared the first Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve ranger position, and have been active community members since arrving in the Mono Basin. David has written multiple fiction and non-fiction books about the area including Mono: A Novel, Spotting Scope, introductions to earth, water, and fire in California, Mono Lake Basin: Images of America, My Visit to Mono Lake, and others. Janet runs the Mono Lake Volunteer program, teaching others to interpret Mono Lake to our many visitors.

The Mono Lake Committee invites you the gallery opening for Nancy Overholtz and Ron Overholtz’s show, “Water & Wood.” The opening is this Saturday, April 20 from 4:00–6:00pm in the Mono Lake Theater & Gallery on the corner of Highway 395 & Third Street in Lee Vining.

Traveling the 38th Parallel is one of the newest books at the Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore, and is well worth a look.
Authors David & Janet Carle are Mono Lake locals, assigned the first park ranger position, jointly, when the Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve was created in 1982. Their position makes obvious the book’s theme: to travel the world, exploring environmental issues, at this similar parallel. An interesting premise, to be sure.

Analyzing the year-end sales for the Information Center & Bookstore generally yields predictable results. However, in 2012, contrary to my expectations, our book sales increased by 10% from 2011!
This is thanks to all those who purchased real, physical books from our selection, both in the store and online.
