Mono Lake Committee closed today

The Information Center & Bookstore will be closed today, Tuesday, January 15 for our annual inventory. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. We will be open all other days this week from 9:00am to 5:00pm, so come on by!

Summer 2013 Mono Lake Committee jobs now open

Are you interested in learning the ropes of a successful non-profit? Do you know someone who might want to live and work in the beautiful Eastern Sierra? We are now accepting applications for summer 2013 seasonal jobs. Hiring begins in late January and positions are open until filled.

Storefront grand re-opening

On Friday, August 3, community members, friends, and Mono Lake Committee staff and members gathered to celebrate the re-opening of the Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore storefront. The improvements, made possible in part by a generous bequest from longtime Committee member Grace de Laet, were three years in the making, with many decisions, large and small, to make along the way. Let’s take a look at the remodel process and some pictures of our new storefront.

Boardwalk at County Park closed Thursday, May 31

The Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve boardwalk located at County Park will be closed tomorrow, May 31, to be resealed with linseed oil. Visitors will not be able to visit the boardwalk, but County Park itself will still be open to the public.

Bookstore hours this week

Construction continues at the Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore, but don’t worry, we are open for business as usual. Due to our office spring cleaning and Memorial Day weekend, our schedule will vary quite a bit over the coming week.

We are currently open from 9:00am to 5:00pm, seven days a week. However, this Wednesday, May 23, we will be closed until 1:30pm for spring cleaning, and open from 1:30 to 5:00pm. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We are open longer hours for Memorial Day weekend. From Friday, May 25 through Monday, May 28, we are open from 8:00am to 6:00pm. We will resume our regular hours, 9:00am to 5:00pm, on Tuesday, May 29.

Cloud watching at Mono Lake

The forecast for the next five days shows rain and snow likely every day. If you are planning to visit the Mono Basin, pack a raincoat and a change of socks, as we will hopefully be getting some precipitation at last. And don’t worry—storm clouds make the basin even more dramatic and beautiful than usual.

One more Eared Grebe returned to Mono Lake

People continue to find Eared Grebes stranded on land around the Mono Basin. If you find one and are able to help it back to the water, you might be able to save its life.
