Visit Mono Lake

An Invitation -
To explore, befriend and learn from Mono Lake... to walk its beaches, float on its waters and climb its volcanoes... to ponder what our children should inherit...

-David Gaines
co-founder, Mono Lake Committee

Sunset over tufa towers in Mono LakeThe Mono Lake Committee cordially invites you to visit Mono Lake, located on Highway 395, 13 miles east of Yosemite National Park, near the town of Lee Vining, California.

One of the oldest lakes in the western hemisphere, Mono Lake is hauntingly beautiful, reflecting the snow-capped Sierra Nevada in its shimmering blue waters. An immense inland sea, the 70 square-mile lake fills a natural basin, 700 square-miles in size. Together with nearby volcanoes, ghost towns and trout-filled streams, this area is a natural wonderland for the entire family.

The Lee Vining Chamber of Commerce is housed at the Mono Lake Committee Information Center on the corner of Highway 395 and 3rd Street, in the town of Lee Vining, and our staff can answer questions about life in Mono County, lodging, dining, and services in Lee Vining. The Committee Information Center has been the place to start your exploration of the Mono Basin for over thirty years. We'll show you where to bird, ski, swim, hike, rent a room, visit a museum, or find dinner. Stop by to check up on the status of Mono Lake, view the free Mono Lake Slideshow, or learn about special programs offered in the Mono Basin and Yosemite. Our experienced staff are always on hand to answer your questions about Mono Lake's natural and political history.
