Wall St. Journal
Editorial Supports HR 623

Hello Members of the California
Urban Water Conservation Council:
Today's Wall Street Journal (January
18) carries as its lead editorial support
for HR
623, Congressman Knollenberg's bill to repeal the
federal plumbing efficiency
standards. Click
here to read the editorial.
When you read it, you will realize that it is the worst
editorial and misrepresentations on
water use efficiency that we have seen in a long time. The fact that the Wall Street Journal
would not only print this but feature
it prominently is indicative of our collective problem in
effectively reaching
the media and Congressional representatives with our
facts and rebuttals.
Congressman Knollenberg is kicking into
high gear. This is the year that the
Republicans believe his bill (HR 623) will
pass. So, this is crunch time for
us. The Wall Street Journal editorial is
just the beginning.
We need your help.
First, send a letter to the editor of
the Wall Street Journal responding to the editorial. Have the highest official in your
water agency or utility sign it. Do
it now. E-mail your letter to letter.editor@edit.wsj.com.
Second, contribute to the coalition.
For the past three years the coalition
fighting this bill, composed of water
agencies, nonprofit environmental groups,
AWWA, plumbing manufacturers, and others have been
struggling to raise the money to
educate the media and the Congress about this issue. We
have raised many thousands of dollars. But
we are out of money and out of time.
This is a call to arms. We need any funding that anyone
can contribute. No amount is too
small.
If you can contribute to this worthy
effort to retain a significant piece of federal legislation
benefiting you and your community, please email me at
madinla@aol.com.
Thank you.
