DESCRIPTION:Join a naturalist-guide for a walk among strange tufa towers\, bubbling springs\, birds\, wildlife\, brine shrimp\, and the behind-the-scenes story of the most unusual lake in California. This guided\, one-hour walk includes hands-on activities\, and an overview of the human and natural history of Mono Lake appropriate for all age levels. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\nPrice: Tours are free\, but there is a $3 per person entrance fee to the South Tufa Area. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdditional information: \n\n\n\n\nMeet at the kiosk at the South Tufa parking lot.\n\n\n\nTours are free.\n\n\n\nThere is a $3 per person entrance fee to the South Tufa Area.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDirections to South Tufa\n\n\n\nFrom Highway 395 turn onto Highway 120 East (located five miles south of Lee Vining and 25 miles north of Mammoth Lakes). Follow the signs for South Tufa. Drive five miles on Highway 120 East and turn left at the sign for South Tufa. Continue straight onto a one-mile-long gravel road and park in the South Tufa parking lot. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring\n\n\n\nSince there is little shade at South Tufa\, please bring sun protection (sun hat\, sunscreen\, sunglasses) and plenty of drinking water.

DESCRIPTION:During the summer\, Refreshing ‘Ologists lectures happen on select Wednesdays at 4:00pm in the Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore gallery. Presentations last about one hour and include light refreshments. \n\n\n\nCome hear from the researchers who are conducting studies in the Mono Basin and the surrounding area on topics like hydrology\, wildlife\, birds\, climate change\, and more. We have hosted more than 40 lectures since 2010. \n\n\n\n\nCurrent schedule of talks\n\n\n\n\nAugust 14: The life and times of mountain White-crowned Sparrows with Frederick Nelson\n\n\n\nAugust 21: Balancing water needs amidst climate change: Mono Lake hydroclimate past and present with Anne Fetrow\n\n\n\n\nLectures will be listed as they are scheduled\, so be sure to check back to reserve your seat for upcoming talks.
