Trail report: The McQuilkin family’s John Muir Trail trek going well

Mono Lake Committee Board Chair, Sally Gaines and her husband Rick Kattelmann recently resupplied Executive Director Geoff McQuilkin, his wife Sarah Taylor, and kids Caelen, Ellery, and 11-month-old Cassia on their month-long hike of the John Muir Trail. The report is that they are all having a blast, and everyone is doing well.

  1. OMGosh, how do you carry all you need for hiking and camping, and carry a baby as well??? And this year we understand you have to carry more water too. VERY impressive. Kudos to this beautiful family.
Nice to see you and your husband as well, Sally. Thanks for sharing.

  2. You wouldn’t know me but I feel like I know you all after being a member for a long time and all I can say is you are one remarkable an wonderful family. We did the High Sierra Loop in Yosemite several times with four children but the youngest was almost ten years old the first time and we only had to carry our personal belongings. Memories no one ever forgets that we still have and you will too. Kodos to you all. Phyllis

  3. I agree with the other posters….such a beautiful family and what a great way to spend part of the summer. Sadly, I am afraid I won’t make it to the Sierra this summer, but it’s so nice to hear about your journey along the trail. And how great to have good friends visit and resupply along the way! Enjoy, and thanks for sharing!
