Defense Trust Weekend, September 27–29
Defense Trust Weekend is a special event for the Mono Lake Committee’s Defense Trust level members. It is a weekend of special tours and gatherings with Mono Lake Committee board, staff, and experts, and fellow Mono Lake enthusiasts.
This year we will be highlighting the 30th anniversary of State Water Board Decision 1631, which established the mandate to protect and restore Mono Lake and its tributary streams. We will be presenting the 2024 Defender of the Trust Award to Marc Del Piero, the California State Water Resources Control Board Member and Hearing Officer for the historic Mono Lake Decision.
Over the course of the weekend we will also be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Committee’s Mono Basin Outdoor Education Center, and the 40th anniversary of the Mono Basin National Forest Scenic Area.
Weekend schedule
Friday, September 27
5:00–5:30pm: Staff and board introductions at the Mono Lake Committee
5:30–8:00pm: Welcome reception at the Mono Lake Committee
Saturday, September 28
7:30–9:00am: Breakfast at the Mono Lake Committee
9:00am–12:00noon: Choose between a Mono Lake canoe tour, a fall color and stream restoration tour, or a service work project on the Scenic Area Visitor Center grounds
12:00–1:30pm: Lunch and tour at the Mono Basin Outdoor Education Center
2:00–4:00pm: Mono Basin Scenic Area history and storytelling speakers at the Scenic Area Visitor Center
5:00–9:00pm: Defender of the Trust Award Dinner at the Mono Inn

2024 Defender of the Trust Award Dinner, September 28
Join us for a festive evening program highlighting the ongoing Mono Lake story—from the important protections hard fought and won to the challenges Mono Lake faces today and in the future.
We will be presenting the 2024 Defender of the Trust Award to Marc Del Piero, the California State Water Resources Control Board Member and Hearing Officer for the historic Mono Lake Decision.
The Defender of the Trust Award Dinner is from 5:00-9:00pm at the Mono Inn. No host bar. Seats are limited, tickets must be purchased in advance, below.
