The Inyo National Forest welcomed a new Deputy District Ranger to the Mammoth-Mono Lake District in early May. Sarah Tomsky takes up the position after interim ranger Lesley Yen’s four-month temporary detail and former ranger Mike Schlafmann’s transfer to the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in Washington state.

Tomsky has already jumped right in, learning about local issues through Mono Basin RPAC (Regional Planning Advisory Committee) meetings and participating in the Mono Lake Volunteer Program training schedule. She will be working out of the Lee Vining Ranger Station, just a few miles from Mono Lake—here at the Committee we look forward to working with her to keep Mono Lake well managed and protected.

Tomsky comes to the Inyo National Forest after working in fuels management for the Forest Service in Vallejo. With a diverse background in photography, art history, conservation biology, and environmental policy and planning, she brings lots of experience and enthusiasm to the area.
