Snow covered tufa on the shore of Mono Lake with a pink edged horizon.
Slender spires of tufa poke out of the untouched snow that covers the southern shores of Mono Lake, California. I've been trying to find a good angle to shoot this small island on the southern shore of Mono Lake. It's tough, since it's probably the most photographed of all the features, as it's easily accessible, visually striking, and sits right on the water for easy access to reflections during sunrise and sunset. But most photos isolate it and separate it from the context around it, I tried to use the tufa on the shore here to frame it in a more interesting way. The snow helps separate things better, adding some variety and contrast, but I did't get an amazing colorful sky the day I took this photo, so I'll need to go back and find a new composition sometime.
