It’s flower season at Mono Lake

Despite an abnormally dry winter, flowers are once again blooming in the Mono Basin. Some are blooming later than in a typical year, but we are still seeing a full array of beautiful colors by Mono Lake and its tributary streams. We often think of flowers as a sign of spring, but remember to also keep an eye out for some late bloomers like the blazing star, which opens up in mid-summer.

Even if you’ve never identified a flower in your life, I encourage you to take notice of them here or wherever you are—you might find yourself learning something new about the place you’re visiting, or about yourself. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this selection of just some of the amazing flowers blooming here in the Mono Basin!
