Refreshments with Refreshing ‘Ologists: The good, the bad, and the ugly at Owens Lake with Pete Pumphrey

Owens Lake is a mostly-dry terminal lake that, like Mono Lake, provides an important habitat for birds and is brimming with political history concerning the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (DWP).

This Wednesday, August 6, president of the Eastern Sierra Audubon Society and retired environmental prosecutor Pete Pumphrey will be lecturing on the complex history of Owens Lake. He will address some of the issues that water diversions have caused, and describe the Audubon Society’s response to these consequences. He will also explain the lessons that have been learned through the eight-year negotiation process with DWP. Pete’s talk, “Owens Lake: The good, the bad, and the ugly,” will be held in the Mono Lake Committee’s Theater & Gallery at 4:00pm on Wednesday, August 6. We hope to see you there!
